Authorities mentioned they were notified by a man who discovered a vehicle in Hanau marked with red-colored liquid

Around fifty cars have been marked with what appears to be human blood in the Germany's municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.

Vehicles, building surfaces and mailboxes were marked, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they stated in a statement.

Officers say they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a resident observed that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored substance.

The liquid had been placed in the form of a Nazi symbol, they added.

Police then located numerous other marked automobiles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.

These symbols are banned in Germany under regulations banning the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.

Police state preliminary tests show the fluid was probably human blood.

"At present there remains no indication as to where it came from; authorities are not yet informed of any harm in relation with the incident," they added.

City officials said they were working "to solve the incident" and have requested to the community for tips.

A senior political figure said the attack left him speechless and needed to be solved rapidly.

"This incident strikes at the core of Hanau and reopens the pain of the extremist terrorist attack in 2020," he wrote on online, referring to the murder of nine people by a shooter focusing on individuals of immigrant origin in February 2020.
